Wisdom's light

I took this photo because the image so captured the spirit of hope and courage that these young people possess. Our wish to support and protect them arose naturally and spontaneously. There is something about genuine goodness and innocence that touches the heart of our shared humanity, and gently reminds me what is truly important.

Preserving...restoring...
protecting

All the Sewala walls are painted with ancient traditional murals of incredible beauty. Yet these walls stand barely upright, straining and bent, supported by wooden beams like the one seen here. We kept thinking what a tragedy it would be if they were to collapse, especially if they caved in upon the hundreds of young students whose presence graces these rooms.

Heir to Bhutan's legacy

This young man is no ordinary student up at Sewala. His Holiness Sewala Jamgon Tulku may well become the next Je Khenpo, spiritual leader of all Bhutan. As you can see, his smile is contagious. If you could only hear how infectious his laugh was. Yet, there was a deep stillness and unspoken wisdom emitted which was palpable by everyone. He spoke little, answering in short, clear and precise sentences. He was incredibly gracious. AMICUS was honored to have had the chance to spend such valuable and constructive time together with His Holiness, this national treasure of Bhutan.
